Cinus de Pistoia, Lectura Codicis (York Minster, MS XVI. P. 8)
Lectura Codicis is a commentary on the Roman imperial constitutions by famous Italian jurist and poet Cinus de Pistoia (1270-1336/1337). Neuton’s copy of the text is written on 313 parchment leaves measuring 340 x 220 mm. The text begins with an elaborate nine-line initial (fol. 1r). Although produced in England, an attempt was made elsewhere in the book to imitate the style of initials used in Italian books. There are running titles similar to those in Neuton’s copies of Bartolus de Saxoferrato’s works surviving at the Minster. For a full description of the book see N. R. Ker and A. J.
